1969

Concept

In an effort to pay homage to the great music of the year 1969 we gathered 12 incredible artists and acts based in Quebec to write a record of all original music, inspired by and sonically representative of the golden years of folk and roots music.

The album is bare bones - classical guitar, piano and string arrangements. I’ve partnered with the wonderful Esca Quartet (Camille Paquette Roy, Amelie Lamontagne, Edith Fitzgerald, Sarah Martineau) and musician and arranger Antoine Gratton to create the foundation of the sound of the record. The album was recorded by Ghyslain Luc Lavigne at The Treehouse Studio in Ste Adele, QC early 2021.

The album’s goal is to represent the musical history and zeitgeist of the late 60’s - in english, french and indigenous communities.

Process

Written through 2020 & 2021, the songs were recorded with an incredible lineup of musicians coming in to join each session, all captured on 8mm film on a 1968 Canon Super 8 by director Lou-Pascal Tremblay. A behind the scenes documentary (10 minute short) as well as individual “artist capsules” document the process, and each artist’s personal connection to the era.
